KYIV: Ukraine has expressed its full confidence in talks hosted by Saudi Arabia over the weekend to end the conflict between Moscow and Kyiv, AFP reported on Monday.
Delegations from around 40 countries, including China, India, the United States and Ukraine, took part in the peace summit held in Jeddah.
The head of Ukraine’s presidential office, Andriy Yermak, in a statement, said: We are very satisfied with the results of the summit.
He added the meeting in Saudi Arabia is a rehearsal for a world in which there is no place for blatant aggression.
He noted the next meeting on the issue will be held soon but there are no exact dates.
Earlier Russia had said that a peace agreement can only be reached if Kyiv put down its arms.
Ukraine Satisfied with Saudi-Led Talks
Russia, which was not invited to the summit, said that a resolution was possible if Ukraine stopped the hostilities and if Western countries stop giving arms to Kyiv.
Meanwhile, in a major development, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated China’s commitment to an independent and impartial position on the Ukraine crisis.
During a telephonic conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov Wang expressed his satisfaction with the progress achieved in “practical cooperation” between China and Russia.
