ISLAMABAD: The government has extended the deployment of Rangers in Islamabad for another three months ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI)’s planned long march.
The extension in the deployment of Rangers was approved by the interior ministry on a summary moved by the Islamabad Capital Territory chief commissioner.
The chief commissioner had requested to extend the deployment period of Rangers ahead of the planned long march of the PTI.
Earlier, the federal government filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court against PTI Chairman Imran Khan, requesting to restrain him from creating the law and order situation by hold the long march on Islamabad.
The former prime minister during his rallies has time and again threatened that he will soon give a final and decisive call about a march on Islamabad to force the government to announce a date for early elections.
PTI’s last long march of May did not prove successful owing to a thin attendance of party workers particularly from Punjab. However, the situation this time is much different as the PTI is in power in Punjab and it could mobilise workers to converge on the federal capital. This has raised concerns about a serious law and order situation in the federal capital.
