ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that the tenure of the present government will end on 14 August and the Election Commission of Pakistan will then announce the dates for the next general election.
Addressing the launch event of Pakistan Education Endowment Fund in Islamabad, he said that whoever forms the next government should make education the top priority to make this nation great.
The prime minister said that the governmanet had allocateed around 3 billion rupees in the budget of the financial year 2023-24 for the endowment fund. This amount would not be deposited into the fund this year but would be disbursed directly i the students in the form of scholarships.
The premier said that he wanted to see allocation for PEEF to increase to 140 billion rupees in the next ten years. It is only through the promotion of education that Pakistan can move forward on the path of prosperity and development.

He recalled that the Punjab Education Endowment Fund (PEEF) was set up back in 2008 that has given scholarships to 450,000 students.
Terming the education promotion as a sacred duty, he said that the education should be meaningful and relevant for modern-day needs to compete with the world better.
He said that special focus should be given to sectors that are lagging behind in development.
Highlighting the economic situation of the country, the premier lauded the financial assistance extended to Pakistan by Saudi Arabia, China, and the United Arab of Emirates during challenging times. However, he added, introspection is required to set the nation in the right direction.
