LAHORE: The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has decided to summon Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan in connection with a probe into the Jinnah House attack on 9 May.
JIT issued call-up notices to the PTI chief for his appearance before the investigators on Tuesday (tomorrow), local media reported.
Imran Khan has been summoned by the JIT head Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Kamran Adil at DIG Investigation Office Qila Gujjar Singh.
The Punjab government had constituted ten separate JITs to investigate the 9 May incidents. Imran Khan had been nominated in different cases filed at several police stations, including Shadman and Sarwar Road.
On 27 May, Punjab Home Department formed a joint investigation team to investigate vandalism and arson at Jinnah House in Lahore on 9 May during protests after the arrest of Imran Khan in Al-Qadir Trust case.
As per the notification issued by the department, SSP Investigation Iqbal Town Aqeela Niaz Naqvi has been appointed as the JIT convener.
The JIT includes 4 other officers of the Punjab police force, the notification showed.
Cases against Imran Khan
Earlier in the month, the Joint Investigation Team chief had presented a report about the cases lodged against Imran Khan before the court.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) heard a plea for 121 cases against Imran Khan. According to the court proceedings, the government counsel informed the court that there are currently 9 cases against Imran Khan in Punjab.
