Pakistan Railways to Complete Rehabilitation Work of Tracks

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways is putting its maximum efforts to complete reconstruction and rehabilitation work on railway tracks along with improving the speed of the locomotives to take passengers to their respective destinations on time.

This was stated by an official in the Ministry of Railway. It said that the infrastructure, including the signaling system and the track from Karachi to Peshawar, Main Line-I (ML-I) along with doubling the existing track from Lahore to Peshawar (462.20 Km), was also being revamped.

Upgradation Work in Pakistan Railway

The official further said that the available length of the track was 1,726 kilometers, and the ministry has planned to take the speed up to 160 kilometers per hour amid the project of up-gradation of ML-I under the China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Meanwhile, the procurement of 230 passenger coaches and 820 High-Capacity Wagons under the PSDP project was also under process. He said the rolling stock being obtained under this project would be capable to run at a speed of 160 km/h whereas the department has a dedicated fleet of 55 diesel-electric locomotives of 4000-4500 HP for freight operation to cater maximum haulage at higher speed.
