QUETTA: At least five people were killed due to torrential rains in various parts of Balochistan, said the Provincial Disaster Management Authority on Sunday.
Rain-related incidents killed two people in Khuzdar, two in Lasbela and Machh, while one person was killed in Ketch.
PDMA officials said that due to heavy rain, several mud houses were damaged in Panjgur and Chagai while the Kohlu floodwaters swept away parts of Sonari Bridge and Bolan Panjra Bridge.
The PDMA said that the repairing of bridges and restoring traffic was underway at both places. The two main national highways connecting Balochistan with Sindh Province were closed after torrential rains in Pashin, Mastung, Daki, Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Chaman, Awaran, and Naseerabad flooded the streams and nullahs.
Rains affect traffic
Traffic was suspended in Bolan after the alternate route of Panjara Bridge was washed away. The Quetta-Karachi Highway was also washed away in the flood waters. The alternative traffic route to Karachi was disturbed as the Quetta-Sabi Highway was closed.
Officials said that after heavy rains and hailstorms in the Pakistan-Iran and Pakistan-Afghan border areas of Balochistan, damages have been reported in different areas, including Turbat, Mand, Kech, and Balu.
The PDMA said that a rain system was developing over Kherthar Ranges and Mount Sulaiman, which was likely to have a major impact on Balochistan, South Punjab, and Sindh.
