ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the top leadership of coalition parties in the government on Wednesday unanimously decided the holding of simultaneous elections on the same day across the country after the completion of the constitutional term of the current government.
According to APP, the leaders of the allied parties decided that holding polls on the same day after the completion of the current government’s tenure was the key point which would serve as a base for any strategy in that regard.
PDM and Elections
The participants of the meeting expressed their complete confidence in Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and resolved their complete support to the PM, besides giving him the power to take decisions.
The coalition parties expressed that they would back all the decisions taken by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Earlier, the consultative meeting of the leaders of coalition political parties was also held at the PM House with the prime minister in the chair, the PM Office said in a press release issued in Urdu.
The meeting was attended by PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, ex-president Asif Ali Zardari, FM Bilawal Bhutto, and other leaders of the PDM. During the meeting, the overall political situation in the country was discussed.
The meeting mulled over taking forward of an earlier initiated consultative process to holding of polls in the country on the same day after the constitutional term of the current government’s tenure.
The meeting also deliberated upon the future strategy in the backdrop of present political contacts and consultations by a committee constituted in this connection. The meeting also urged the Supreme Court of Pakistan to respect the Parliament and its opinion.
