Saudi Envoy Says Measures to Be taken to Empower Women

NEW YORK: The Saudi deputy permanent representative to the UN Mohammed Abdulaziz Alateek has said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has introduced many reforms that ban all shapes of all discrimination against women in the country. He said that Islam is a great positive force for the social, economic, and political well-being of women, and it is essential that nations should develop their national legislation based on it.

He was speaking during an event at the UN headquarters in New York titled “Women in Islam,” hosted by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to mark International Women’s Day. The envoy added that several commitments and objectives have been made to empower women in Saudi Arabia. He added that many special laws have also been approved to ensure the equality of women and men in the Kingdom.

Saudi Envoy vows to empower women in society

The envoy called for enhanced cooperation in efforts to empower women in the society, and said that Riyadh is committed to achieving these goals. He added that Riyadh is committed to strengthening the role of women in society by providing “various kinds of assistance, humanitarian aid, and working experience with the international community to empower women.  On the occasion many officials from the middle east and international organizations also shared their views with the participants of the event. The participants of the event also condemned violation of women rights in Afghanistan.
