ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court in Islamabad on Thursday exonerated defence analyst and retired Lieutenant General Amjad Shoaib in a case pertaining to inciting public against state institutions.
The court directed to immediately release the ex-general. The court on February 27 (Monday) had granted police a three-day remand of the retired military officer.
Charges against the ex-General
Lt Gen (retd) Amjad Shoaib was arrested earlier on Monday by Islamabad Police after a first information report (FIR) was lodged against him at the Ramna police station, which said that the retired general in an interview on a private TV channel passed statements that “incited the government officials and opposition from performing their government and legal duties”.
An image during his time under custody went viral. In the photograph, the former military man could be seen standing behind bars with his hands folded and eyes focused on the camera.
