PTI’s Khan Leaves for Islamabad to Appear in Several Courts

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan early Tuesday left Lahore for Islamabad to appear before several federal courts in different cases.

The PTI chief had Initially planned to fly to the federal capital, but decided to commute by road after last minute changes in his travel plan.

Khan, who is accompanied by the party workers, is set to appear in at least four separate cases in different city courts, including prohibited funding in the banking court, a terrorism case, and two other cases in a local court.

Imran Khan will appear before the Banking Court in the prohibited funding case. The former PM seeks bail in the case filed against him and other party leaders by the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Commercial banking Circle under the Foreign Exchange Act. Banking Court Judge Rukhsinda Shaheen will resume the hearing today. The case was filed after Khan and other party members were accused of being the beneficiaries of suspicious bank accounts. The FIA claimed that Abraaj Group transferred $2.1 million to PTI’s bank accounts.

The PTI chief will further file a pre-arrest bail plea in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) today. The ATC had earlier rejected his bail plea over non-appearance while maintaining that Khan must appear in person to file the plea.

Khan will also appear before an Islamabad court today in two other cases where hearing is scheduled for his indictment in the Toshakhana reference.

A large number of PTI workers have gathered in Islamabad to welcome their leader. Meanwhile, tight security measures have been taken in the premises of the federal courts amidst Khan’s scheduled appearance there today. Reportedly, the courts would be cordoned off and no irrelevant person would be allowed to enter the courtrooms to avoid inconvenience, the federal capital administration has said.
