LAHORE: Former Chief Justice Lahore High Court and attorney general of Pakistan Justice (R) Malik Muhammad Qayyum passed away aged 79 in Lahore.
Family sources said his funeral prayer would be offered in Johar Town, Lahore. People from legal and political fraternities are expected to attend his last rites.
Qayyum was the brother of interim Punjab Health Minister Javed Akram and late Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Muhammad Pervaiz Malik.
Life and legacy
Retired Justice Qayyum was born on December 18, 1944 to former Supreme Court judge Justice Muhammad Akram who was part of the LHC bench which awarded death sentence to former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
He began his career as legal practitioner in 1964 and became a judge of Lahore High Court in October 1988. He also served as Punjab Local Election Commission member as well as the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
