KARACHI: Pakistan spinner Usman Tariq has broken his silence after being left out of the national squad for the upcoming white-ball assignments, posting a reflective message on social media shortly after the Pakistan Cricket Board announced the squads for the Sri Lanka T20I series and the ODI tri-series.
Tariq posted a message on his Instagram story shortly after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revealed the squads, writing: “The hardest part of wisdom is learning to stay silent when Ego wants to speak.”

Strong World Cup performance
The right-arm spinner had made a significant impact during Pakistan’s campaign at the 2026 T20 World Cup, where he emerged as the team’s leading wicket-taker in the tournament.
Tariq claimed 10 wickets in six matches at an average of 14.10 and an economy rate of 7.23, finishing 13th among the overall leading wicket-takers in the competition.

Despite his performances on the international stage, the spinner was not included in either Pakistan’s T20I or ODI squads for the upcoming home assignments.
Pakistan announce major squad changes
The PCB announced squads for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka and the ODI tri-series featuring England and Sri Lanka.
The selectors also made leadership changes, removing Salman Ali Agha as Pakistan’s T20I captain and appointing Sahibzada Farhan as his replacement after he led Pakistan to a silver medal at the 2026 Asian Games.
Pakistan prepare for busy schedule
Pakistan will begin their three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka on October 9 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The second and third matches will be played on October 11 and 13.
Following the T20I series, Pakistan will take part in a seven-match ODI tri-series featuring England and Sri Lanka, with matches scheduled in Rawalpindi and Lahore.
