GAZA: An Israeli airstrike killed at least five Palestinians, including four women, in an apartment building in Gaza City early Saturday, health officials said.
Medics said a Christian mother and her daughter were among those killed in the strike.
In southern Gaza, Israeli artillery carried out intense shelling in areas south and east of Khan Younis and north of Rafah, accompanied by heavy gunfire, according to eyewitnesses.
In central Gaza, Israeli military vehicles also opened heavy fire on areas east of the Bureij refugee camp.

“We were asleep and suddenly heard continuous strikes and heavy explosions, the children woke up startled and started running and screaming,” said eyewitness Ahmed Al-Dahdouh. “We ran out and found that our neighbour’s house was struck and there were dismembered martyrs, women, men and children, we started to pull them out, they were scattered under the rubble,” he told Reuters.
“We are Muslims and these are our Christian brethren, who are not involved in anything, they are peaceful people, and everybody loves them, and now we pulled out their bodies, a mother and her daughter,” said Dahdouh.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement had killed at least 1,439 Palestinians and wounded 5,052 others as of Thursday.
Since October 2023, more than 74,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 175,000 injured in Gaza, according to Palestinian figures. The conflict has also destroyed around 90% of the territory’s infrastructure.
UK denounces Israel’s actions in Gaza
UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband on Monday denounced the Israeli government’s actions in Gaza and the occupied West Bank as “a stain on the conscience of the world”.
Delivering a sharp criticism at Labour’s annual conference, Miliband said the threats Israel faces “cannot justify” the actions that have followed.
The UK Foreign Secretary received a large round of applause from the conference hall as he condemned the suffering of Palestinians and set out a tougher approach towards the government of Benjamin Netanyahu.
“I want to say to the millions of people in this country, and indeed elsewhere, who have been moved and outraged by the plight of the Palestinian people, we hear you. You were right,” he said.

He said Labour had changed its approach under Andy Burnham’s leadership, promising to challenge Israeli abuses of Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
“And under Andy’s leadership, we have reset our approach. We call out ethnic cleansing by the settler terrorists in the West Bank. We call out the evidence of war crimes in Gaza. We call out Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine, and we match word with action.”
Miliband also announced measures targeting economic links with illegal Israeli settlements, saying Britain would move beyond statements of condemnation.
“We will ban the import of goods from illegal settlements. We will disrupt the supply lines for British finance, British construction, and British services for illegal settlements.”
