ISLAMABAD: Yadgar-e-Fatah, a landmark monument commemorating Pakistan’s victory in Marka-e-Haq and honouring the sacrifices of the country’s martyrs, was opened to the general public in Islamabad on Saturday, giving families and young visitors an opportunity to experience the monument and its projection-mapping show.

The public opening ceremony at the monument in Sector H-8 featured a musical programme and an immersive projection-mapping show depicting the country’s history and the events associated with Marka-e-Haq. The event drew citizens whose participation reflected national pride and interest in the monument’s message of sacrifice, courage and patriotism.

The opening is particularly significant for families as the monument is situated close to several educational institutions in H-8 and adjoining sectors. Children visiting with their parents said the monument provided an opportunity to learn about Pakistan’s history and the sacrifices made for the country’s defence.

Parents accompanying their children also viewed the monument as a place where younger generations could learn about patriotism, national responsibility and the courage displayed by the armed forces.

A monument for the next generation

The Yadgar-e-Fatah is designed as a combination of modern architecture and technology, with its projection-mapping system turning the structure into a large visual canvas for historical storytelling. The projection experience is intended to make the history associated with the monument accessible to younger audiences.

For many parents, its location near schools and educational institutions adds an educational dimension to visits, allowing children to see a national monument beyond the pages of textbooks.

Yadgar-e-Fatah was earlier inaugurated by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on August 13, 2026, on the eve of Pakistan’s Independence Day. The ceremony also featured a light and sound show, a documentary on the monument’s construction and a Pakistan Air Force flypast.

Completed in eight months, the marble monument features five major archways. According to official descriptions, its design represents the five pillars of Islam as well as five elements described as pillars of Pakistan, the government, military, media, people and national ideology.

From Sunday, Yadgar-e-Fatah will remain open to the public from 5pm to 10pm on all days except Monday.

The monument commemorates Pakistan’s victory during the May 2025 conflict with India, which Pakistan refers to as Marka-e-Haq. The conflict followed the April 22, 2025 incident in Pahalgam and ended with a ceasefire on May 10, 2025.
