RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has launched the Riyadh Digital Innovation District, a major initiative designed to strengthen the capital’s position as a global centre for technology talent, digital innovation and investment.
The initiative was announced by the Board of Directors of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) as part of efforts to develop an integrated digital business ecosystem capable of attracting leading technology companies, specialised professionals and entrepreneurs from around the world.
The district is intended to bring together technology talent, businesses and investment, supporting the growth of Riyadh’s knowledge-based digital economy and helping the capital move towards its ambition of becoming one of the world’s top 10 technology hubs.
According to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the initiative will concentrate on six key technology areas: artificial intelligence and big data; cybersecurity; computing and cloud services; the Internet of Things (IoT); blockchain technologies; and robotics and unmanned aerial systems.
According to the RCRC, these sectors represent a significant share of global investment in technology innovation companies and are expected to play a central role in shaping future economic growth and technological development.
The Riyadh Digital Innovation District will focus on creating an environment where technology companies and specialised talent can establish and expand their operations, while encouraging entrepreneurship, innovation and investment in emerging technologies.

Speaking on the occasion, RCRC Chief Executive Officer and Minister of State Ibrahim bin Muhammad Al-Sultan expressed appreciation to Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman for their continued support for the commission’s projects.
Al-Sultan said the initiative would further enhance Riyadh’s appeal as an international destination for technology professionals, global technology companies and digital entrepreneurs.
He added that the project reflects the Saudi leadership’s commitment to advancing Riyadh’s role in future-oriented sectors and accelerating digital transformation.
The initiative forms part of Saudi Arabia’s broader Vision 2030 agenda, which seeks to diversify the Kingdom’s economy, reduce its reliance on oil and develop a prosperous economy driven by innovation, technology and digital transformation.
