ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan: Pakistan’s enduring spirit of independence and the timeless legacy of its founder were celebrated with great fervour at a reception hosted by the Embassy of Pakistan in Ashgabat, marking the country’s 79th Independence Anniversary and the 150th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
The event, held at the embassy premises, brought together a distinguished gathering of diplomats, business leaders, members of the Pakistani diaspora, and media personnel.

Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, underscoring the warmth and depth of bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries.

Ambassador highlights Pakistan’s role in regional peace and stability
In her address, Ambassador Dr. Faryal Leghari expressed deep appreciation to the leadership and Government of Turkmenistan for their continued support in further strengthening Pakistan-Turkmenistan bilateral ties, which she described as rooted in mutual respect, shared values, peace, stability and regional connectivity.

The Ambassador praised the tireless mediation efforts of Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership aimed at a peaceful resolution of the US-Iran conflict, stressing the importance of dialogue for conflict resolution and lasting peace. She reaffirmed that Pakistan remains committed to playing a constructive role in de-escalating regional tensions through diplomatic engagement.
On the occasion, the Ambassador underscored the critical importance of water as one of the most essential foundations of human security. She stressed that shared waters must never be weaponised, rather they must remain a bridge of cooperation and managed in accordance with international law. Her remarks came at a time when water security has emerged as a pressing challenge in the region, requiring collective and cooperative approaches.
Recalling the courage and steadfast commitment of Pakistan’s security forces in confronting internal and external threats, the Ambassador reaffirmed the nation’s unwavering resolve to overcome these challenges. She paid tribute to the sacrifices of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Documentary and photo exhibition showcase Quaid’s legacy
The ceremony also featured a short documentary and a photo exhibition, showcasing the contributions and enduring legacy of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
The exhibition highlighted the Father of the Nation’s vision, leadership and unwavering commitment to creating a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent. The documentary provided a glimpse into his life and the principles of unity, faith and discipline that continue to guide the nation.
Turkmenistan’s chief guest lauds growing bilateral ties
In response, Chief Guest Rashid Meredov thanked Ambassador Dr. Faryal Leghari for the warm hospitality and noted that the first official international recognition of Turkmenistan’s neutrality was received with the adoption of the Final Declaration of the Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization in Islamabad in March 1995.
The Chief Guest highlighted the importance of the visits of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan to Turkmenistan in 2024 and 2025, expressing hope that bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries will continue to grow strong in all spheres of mutual interest, including energy, academic and educational sectors.
He emphasised that Pakistan and Turkmenistan share a common vision for regional connectivity and economic cooperation, and expressed confidence that ongoing energy and infrastructure projects would further strengthen the partnership between the two nations.
