Pakistan Flag Waves with Pride Across Continents as Nation Celebrates 79 Years of Freedom

From London to Tokyo, Beijing to Canberra, Pakistani envoys lead patriotic tributes as diaspora unites across four continents.

ISLAMABAD: In a spectacular display of national pride that spanned time zones and continents, Pakistani diplomatic missions across the globe transformed into vibrant bastions of patriotism on Friday, as the nation’s 79th Independence Day celebrations resonated from Asia to Europe, Africa to the Pacific.

Flag-hoisting ceremonies, led by Pakistan’s envoys, commenced the day’s proceedings with solemn dignity, as the green and white standard unfurled to the stirring notes of the national anthem.

The gatherings, attended by members of the Pakistani diaspora, host country officials, foreign diplomats, media representatives, and embassy staff with their families, paid heartfelt homage to the sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers and the visionary leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

At each mission, special messages from President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar were read aloud, reinforcing the spirit of unity, resilience, and national purpose that continues to define Pakistan’s journey eight decades after independence.

A global tapestry of patriotic celebrations

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES – Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan led the flag-hoisting ceremony in Abu Dhabi, urging the 2.2 million-strong Pakistani community to continue their constructive role in Pakistan’s progress.

He appreciated their contributions to the UAE’s development and their support to the national economy through remittances. Children from Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Arab Pakistan School performed patriotic songs and joined the ambassador in cake-cutting.

DUBAI – Acting Consul General Fawad Ali Khan addressed a large gathering at the Consulate General, describing 14 August as “not merely a date but a symbol of freedom, sacrifice, determination and national identity.”


He paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam’s principles of Faith, Unity and Discipline. An art exhibition featuring works by Pakistani artists was organized to mark the “Year of Quaid-e-Azam.”

UNITED KINGDOM – Pakistan High Commission in London celebrated with traditional zeal, with Chairman Kashmir Committee Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon as guest of honour.

High Commissioner Tipu Usman hoisted the flag and praised the Pakistani diaspora as “real ambassadors” bridging Pakistan and the UK. British-Pakistani Soprano Ms. Saira Peter performed national songs, while children added vibrancy to the celebrations.

FRANCE – Ambassador Mumtaz Zahra Baloch hoisted the flag at the Paris embassy, welcoming distinguished community members.


She reaffirmed Pakistan’s political and diplomatic support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Palestine. A historic photo exhibition on Quaid-e-Azam’s life was inaugurated at the embassy.

SAUDI ARABIA – Consul General Syed Mustafa Rabbani led the ceremony at the Jeddah Consulate, highlighting the significance of the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement in strengthening cooperation between Pakistan and the Kingdom.

A pictorial exhibition featuring 100 historical pictures of Quaid-e-Azam’s life and the Pakistan movement was opened for the public.

CHINA – Charge d’Affaires Aizaz Khan hoisted the flag at the Beijing embassy, highlighting that Pakistan and China are commemorating 75 years of diplomatic relations.

Students of Pakistan Embassy College Beijing performed, conveying messages of steadfastness and hard work. A photo exhibition on Quaid-e-Azam’s life was also featured.

AUSTRALIA – High Commissioner Irfan Shaukat addressed a flag-hoisting ceremony in Canberra, describing the Pakistani diaspora as one of the country’s greatest national assets.

He commended their outstanding achievements and contributions to Pakistan’s socio-economic development.

JAPAN – Ambassador Abdul Hameed hoisted the national flag at the Tokyo embassy, extending warm felicitations to Pakistanis in Japan and reaffirming the commitment to deepening Pakistan-Japan friendship.

SINGAPORE – High Commissioner Rabia Shafiq led the flag-hoisting ceremony at Pakistan House, paying tribute to Quaid-e-Azam’s visionary leadership.

She congratulated the nation on the landmark Makkah Joint Defence Agreement and reaffirmed Pakistan’s role in promoting regional and global peace.

IRAN – Ambassador Imran Ahmed Siddiqui addressed the Pakistani diaspora at Pakistan House in Tehran, emphasising their contributions to bilateral relations and the shared goal of enhancing trade volume to 10 billion dollars.

OMAN – The embassy hosted a flag-hoisting ceremony where the ambassador praised the Pakistani-Omani diaspora for their role in building Pakistan’s economy through remittances and investments.


He declared that Pakistan had proven itself second to none in both battlefield and diplomacy.

BANGLADESH – High Commissioner Imran Haider hoisted the flag at the Dhaka mission, with a large gathering of community members, Bangladeshi friends, students, and journalists.

Prizes were distributed to Bangladeshi students for an essay competition titled “Historical Sites in Pakistan.”

THAILAND – Ambassador-designate Saadia Altaf Qazi led the ceremony in Bangkok, paying tribute to the martyrs, veterans, and founding fathers of Pakistan.


IRAQ – Ambassador Muhammad Zeeshan Ahmed hoisted the flag at the Baghdad embassy, paying tribute to the historic struggle for independence.


He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the people of IIOJK and their right to self-determination under UN resolutions.

REPUBLIC OF KOREA – Ambassador Syed Moazzam H. Shah organised a commemorative event in Seoul, attended by Mayor of Siheung City Lim Byeong-taek as Chief Guest.


Korean singers performed “Dil Dil Pakistan,” and the Traditional Arts Group of Korea added a cultural touch to the celebrations.

MAURITIUS – Chargé d’Affaires Khadijah Khalid Khan led the flag-hoisting ceremony in Floreal, attended by notable dignitaries including the Deputy Mayor of Curepipe.

She extended special appreciation to the Pakistani diaspora for serving as cultural ambassadors.

TANZANIA – Charge d’Affaires Muhammad Azeem Khan led the celebration at the Dar es Salaam mission, paying tribute to Quaid-e-Azam’s visionary leadership and highlighting the principles of Unity, Faith and Discipline as lasting sources of inspiration.


GUANGZHOU – The Consulate hosted a ceremony attended by Pakistanis from all walks of life, business leaders, professors, doctors, researchers, and students, along with their Chinese friends.

The Consul General praised Pakistan’s peaceful commitment to coexistence and extended gratitude to South China’s five provinces for their hospitality.

TAJIKISTAN – The embassy held a flag-hoisting ceremony with a solemn tribute to Quaid-e-Azam and the martyrs of Pakistan.


VIETNAM – The embassy commemorated Independence Day with a flag-hoisting ceremony, with the Ambassador reading messages from the President and Prime Minister.

In New Delhi and Kabul, messages of unity and resolve

INDIA – At the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, Chargé d’Affaires Saad Ahmad Warraich hoisted the national flag in an impressive ceremony attended by members of the High Commission and their families.

In his remarks, he described Pakistan’s creation under Quaid-e-Azam’s dynamic leadership as “not merely a triumph of conviction but a fulfillment of ordained destiny.” He underscored Pakistan’s nuclear capability as a stabilizing factor in South Asia and paid homage to the martyrs of Marka-e-Haq, lauding the role of the armed forces in national defence.

Dressed in traditional attire, children performed national songs and delivered speeches highlighting the historic struggle for Pakistan’s creation. A special cake was cut, and Warraich inaugurated a photo exhibition depicting the life and vision of Quaid-e-Azam, specially curated to mark his 150th birth anniversary.

AFGHANISTAN – At the Embassy of Pakistan in Kabul, Ambassador Ubaid Ur Rehman Nizamani hoisted the Pakistani flag at a dignified ceremony.

In his remarks, he reaffirmed the vision outlined in the leadership’s messages and recalled the unparalleled struggle of the founding forefathers. He lauded the courage and commitment of the country’s security forces in facing internal and external threats, reaffirming the nation’s firm resolve in overcoming challenges.

He also underscored Pakistan’s stabilising role in promoting global peace, stability, and regional cooperation. The event brought together Pakistanis working at UN agencies, international organisations, professionals, and students in Afghanistan.
