NEW DELHI, India: In a powerful display of national pride on foreign soil, Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi transformed its chancery lawns into a vibrant bastion of patriotism on Friday, commemorating the nation’s 79th Independence Day with traditional zeal and unwavering fervour.
Saad Ahmad Warraich, Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires to India, hoisted the national flag during an impressive ceremony that drew diplomats, staff members, and their families, all united in celebrating eight decades of sovereignty.

The event carried profound significance as it unfolded in the heart of a nation that shares a complex history with Pakistan, underscoring the diplomatic mission’s commitment to projecting the country’s identity with dignity and grace.
The ceremony commenced with the reading of official messages from President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, setting a solemn and reflective tone.
Dressed in traditional attire, children captivated the audience with stirring national songs and impassioned speeches, recounting the historic struggle that led to the creation of Pakistan, a poignant reminder that the nation’s founding ideals continue to inspire younger generations.

A vision fulfilled
In his address, Warraich delivered a stirring reflection on the nation’s journey, describing the creation of Pakistan under Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s dynamic leadership as “not merely a triumph of the deep-seated and abiding conviction of the Muslims of the subcontinent to chart a future of their own, but also a fulfillment of their ordained destiny to achieve a separate homeland.”
He emphasised that Pakistan has made remarkable strides across all spheres of life over the decades, evolving into a resilient and progressive nation.
Nuclear deterrence and regional stability
The Chargé d’Affaires underscored Pakistan’s nuclear capability as a “stabilising factor in South Asia,” while invoking the concept of Marka-e-Haq, the righteous struggle, as testimony to the nation’s unswerving resolve to protect its sovereignty and uphold the dignity of its people.
He paid heartfelt homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the motherland and lauded the Pakistan armed forces for their unwavering role in national defence.

Dialogue over discord
Striking a diplomatic chord, Mr. Warraich reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm belief in peaceful coexistence, dialogue, and diplomacy. He highlighted the historic trilateral agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye as a “milestone in advancing regional stability and contributing to global peace.”
However, he made it unequivocally clear that the path to lasting peace in South Asia lies in resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, a message that carried particular weight given the venue.

The celebrations also featured a special cake-cutting ceremony, while Warraich inaugurated a curated photo exhibition depicting the life, vision, and historic struggle of Quaid-i-Azam, specially organised to mark the founder’s 150th birth anniversary this year.
The exhibition offered a visual journey through Pakistan’s founding narrative, reminding attendees of the principles that continue to guide the nation.
