PESHAWAR: The Ministry of Railways has taken a series of measures to extend freight and passenger services in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan, with a focus on improving connectivity, facilitating trade and providing more economical transportation options.
According to an official of the Ministry of Railways, a state-of-the-art dry port had been established at Azakhel in the Peshawar Railway Division to meet the requirements of businesses involved in the bulk transportation of goods between Peshawar and other parts of the country.
The facility is expected to strengthen the movement of commercial goods by rail and provide businesses with an alternative and cost-effective mode of transportation, particularly for bulk consignments.
The official said the ministry was also taking steps to improve railway connectivity in KP and enhance the availability of freight services to support commercial activity and regional trade.
At present, four Mail/Express trains are operating from Peshawar, connecting the provincial capital with various parts of the country.
The measures form part of broader efforts by Pakistan Railways to strengthen its transportation network, improve the movement of goods and passengers, and promote railways as an economical means of transport.
The expansion of freight services is also aimed at supporting businesses by improving access to markets and facilitating the movement of goods between KP, Balochistan and other regions of the country.
Officials said continued improvements in railway infrastructure and services would help enhance connectivity, support trade and provide affordable transportation facilities to the public and business community.
