MOSCOW: Six people were killed in an overnight Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian city of Belgorod, regional authorities said on Sunday, as strikes caused fires and damaged residential buildings.
Alexander Shuvayev, acting governor of the Belgorod region, initially reported three deaths and 25 injuries, including two children.
The death toll later rose to six after emergency workers searched an apartment building that had caught fire during the attack.
Shuvayev said fires broke out in two apartment buildings, while numerous residential and non-residential properties were also damaged.
Wider drone attacks
Russia’s Defence Ministry said more than 150 Ukrainian drones were destroyed over the European part of the country, as well as over Crimea, the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.
In Novorossiysk, a major Russian export port on the Black Sea, falling drone debris damaged two facilities, according to local mayor Andrei Kravchenko.
Authorities did not immediately identify the facilities.

The local crisis centre later said three residential buildings were damaged in Novorossiysk and one person was injured.
In Russia’s Bashkortostan region, a Ukrainian drone also struck a building under construction and a crane in the city of Ufa, state-run RIA news agency reported, citing local emergency services.
The overnight attacks highlighted the continued use of long-range drones in the Russia-Ukraine war, with regions far from the main battlefield increasingly reporting strikes on urban and infrastructure targets.
Ukrainian authorities did not immediately comment on the reported Belgorod attack.
