KABUL: An armed opposition group in Afghanistan has said that its forces captured a Taliban base in the central province of Ghor, as it steps up operations against the country’s rulers.
The United Front of Afghanistan (UFA) said its fighters seized the base in Al-Farooq district during an operation on Thursday night.
In a statement issued on Friday, the group said two Taliban members were killed and four others wounded during the attack. It also said several Taliban fighters fled the area.
The group released two videos showing the operation. Gunfire could be heard in the footage, while one video showed a room containing weapons.
The UFA said its forces seized weapons and other equipment from the base.
Opposition to Taliban rule
The United Front, led by former Afghan army general Sami Sadat, is one of the armed groups opposing the Taliban, which returned to power in Afghanistan in August 2021 following the withdrawal of US-led international forces.

The group announced the start of military operations against the Taliban on August 1.
Since then, it has claimed responsibility for attacks in several parts of Afghanistan, including Kandahar, Helmand, Badghis, Badakhshan and Faryab provinces.
Al-Farooq district lies northwest of Firozkoh, the provincial capital of Ghor. The district was established as a new administrative unit after the Taliban returned to power.
