ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Jeddah on Thursday on an official visit to Saudi Arabia to hold high-level strategic talks with the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammad bin Salman.
Prime Minister Sharif and his delegation were received at Jeddah by Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Makkah, Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadli, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ahmad Farooq, and senior Saudi and Pakistani officials, the Prime Minister’s Office media wing said in a statement.

During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to meet Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss ways to further strengthen the longstanding fraternal ties and strategic partnership between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia to exchange views on regional situation
The two leaders are also expected to exchange views on the regional situation and other issues of mutual interest.

As part of the visit, the Prime Minister will perform Umrah in Makkah and offer prayers at the Prophet’s Mosque (PBUH) in Madinah.
The Prime Minister is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.
According to the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will hold delegation-level talks at the Royal Palace in Jeddah, where both sides will undertake a comprehensive review of bilateral cooperation and exchange views on the rapidly evolving regional security landscape.

Both leaders are also expected to deliberate on efforts aimed at preventing further escalation and promoting lasting stability across the Middle East.

The leadership of the two countries is also expected to reaffirm their commitment to further expanding cooperation in defence, security, intelligence, trade, investment and economic collaboration while reviewing major regional and international developments of mutual concern.
The visit reflects the close political coordination between Islamabad and Riyadh and comes amid intensified regional diplomacy, as key stakeholders seek to navigate multiple security challenges and advance efforts for peace and stability across the Gulf and the wider Middle East.
Saudi Arabia extends $5 billion support for Pakistan until 2029
It is pertinent to mention that Saudi Arabia last month extended its $5 billion financial support for Pakistan until 2029, providing a major boost to the country’s external financing position, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Jameel Ahmad said.
The central bank chief said the extension marks a departure from the previous practice of annual renewals, providing Pakistan with sustainability and visibility into its reserve position through 2029.
The announcement comes as Pakistan continues to pursue economic reforms under an International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme aimed at strengthening macroeconomic stability and reducing vulnerabilities in the external account.
Saudi Arabia has remained one of Pakistan’s most important economic partners, repeatedly extending deposit facilities with the SBP during periods of financial stress. The latest rollover is expected to help Islamabad manage its external financing requirements and improve investor confidence.
