ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are set to hold high-level strategic talks in Jeddah on Thursday as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is due to begin a three-day official visit to the Kingdom from August 6 to 8, the Foreign Office (FO) said.
The prime minister will be accompanied by the Chief of Defence Forces and the Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who is already in Saudi Arabia following a visit to Jordan, will also join the Pakistani delegation.
Speaking at the Foreign Office’s weekly press briefing, spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would hold talks with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.
He said the discussions would focus on strengthening bilateral relations and exchanging views on regional and international developments of mutual interest.
Andrabi said the visit reflected the longstanding strategic partnership between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, which he described as being rooted in decades of mutual trust, cooperation and brotherhood.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, who has arrived in Saudi Arabia after participating in the Ministerial Meeting on Jerusalem in Jordan, will also join the high-level talks in Jeddah.
Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar and Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif will also be part of the Pakistani delegation.
According to the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will hold delegation-level talks at the Royal Palace in Jeddah, where both sides will undertake a comprehensive review of bilateral cooperation and exchange views on the rapidly evolving regional security landscape.
The discussions are expected to focus on the prevailing situation in the Gulf, maritime security, the continuing threat posed by Yemen’s Houthi movement, and the wider implications of ongoing regional tensions.

Both leaders are also expected to deliberate on efforts aimed at preventing further escalation and promoting lasting stability across the Middle East.
Sources said the two sides will also review the progress of the ongoing US-Iran negotiations in Doha and discuss ways to preserve diplomatic momentum, with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia sharing a common interest in encouraging dialogue and peaceful resolution of regional disputes.
The leadership of the two countries is also expected to reaffirm their commitment to further expanding cooperation in defence, security, intelligence, trade, investment and economic collaboration while reviewing major regional and international developments of mutual concern.
The visit reflects the close political coordination between Islamabad and Riyadh and comes amid intensified regional diplomacy, as key stakeholders seek to navigate multiple security challenges and advance efforts for peace and stability across the Gulf and the wider Middle East.
