ISLAMABAD: A video circulating on social media shows activists of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir staging a dramatic photo session in which participants were seen lying on the ground with red liquid poured over their clothes to create the impression of serious injuries. However, independent fact-checkers exposed the staged drama of the banned JAAC activists.

Security analysts say the staged drama was aimed at provoking public sentiment, encouraging attacks against law enforcement agencies (LEAs), and creating unrest and a law-and-order situation.

The video further revealed that when police personnel approached the individuals lying on the ground, the so-called “injured” participants immediately stood up and moved normally, with no visible signs of injuries or distress. The staged scene ended shortly afterwards, and the individuals involved were taken into custody by law enforcement officers.

Security analysts said such staged visuals can be used to spread misinformation, create panic, and mislead the public by presenting a false narrative of violence. They urged citizens to verify the authenticity and context of viral content before sharing emotionally charged material on social media platforms.

The incident underscores the growing challenge posed by manipulated or staged content, particularly during periods of heightened tensions, where misleading images and videos can contribute to misinformation and disrupt public order.

The AJK government declared JAAC a proscribed organisation on June 5 under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), stating that the group was involved in activities it classified as terrorism.

TTP-JAAC nexus exposed

The participation of armed elements linked to the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorist group in the sit-in organised by the banned JAAC in Rawalakot also exposed the nexus between the banned TTP and JAAC groups, raising fears of a plot to incite violence, create unrest and destabilise the region.

According to reports, armed elements associated with the banned TTP terrorist group have joined protesters moving towards Rawalakot. The objective of the terrorist elements’ infiltration is to provoke clashes with law enforcement agencies, create casualties and launch a campaign to discredit Pakistan and its state institutions internationally, security analysts said.

A viral video circulating on social media showed Saifullah Kashmiri, the son of TTP commander Dr Rauf Kashmiri, alongside Umar Nazir, the core leader of the banned JAAC, participating in the Joint Action Committee’s protest. The viral footage is evidence of links between TTP elements and the banned JAAC leaders.

Security analysts said that the presence of armed TTP-linked terrorists in the JAAC protest is an attempt to exploit the demonstration for violent purposes.

According to the analysts, the involvement of Saifullah Kashmiri and individuals associated with the Rauf Kashmiri group points to an organised effort by TTP-linked elements to infiltrate the JAAC sit-in.

Analysts said the presence of TTP-linked elements validates the government’s decision to designate the Joint Awami Action Committee as a banned organisation.

Indian supported Joint Action Committee activist caught red-handed

Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Sunday said investigations by the country’s security agencies had uncovered an India-linked digital propaganda network involving an arrested digital marketing service provider connected to the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

The minister said investigators had gathered evidence showing that social media campaigns promoting anti-Pakistan content and activities related to the banned group were financed from India.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Tarar said the investigation had exposed a coordinated digital disinformation operation aimed at spreading anti-state narratives, targeting Pakistan’s sovereignty, state institutions, the armed forces and the Chief of Army Staff through organised social media campaigns.

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir government has alreday announced a zero-tolerance policy toward members of the proscribed Action Committee accused of engaging in unlawful and disruptive activities.
