RIYADH: The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has launched a national artificial intelligence (AI) risk management framework aimed at providing a unified methodology for identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring AI-related risks across the Kingdom.
The initiative is designed to help public and private sector organisations adopt AI technologies in a safe, responsible, and sustainable manner, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.

SDAIA said AI presents unique challenges that differ from those associated with traditional software, as its risks can emerge unexpectedly, evolve over time, and often be difficult to explain or reproduce. These characteristics, the authority noted, require a comprehensive and integrated approach to risk management.

The framework is based on a four-stage methodology comprising context and scope definition, risk identification and assessment, risk treatment, and continuous monitoring and review. It uses a risk matrix that evaluates both the likelihood of an incident and the severity of its potential impact to determine overall risk levels.
Built on seven core principles—including integrity, privacy, transparency, and accountability—the framework also categorises AI risks into seven main types to provide comprehensive coverage across different applications and sectors.
The framework supports SDAIA’s role as the national reference for data and AI and its efforts to promote the responsible use of AI, in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
