ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have underscored the need to strengthen collective efforts to promote dialogue and diplomacy following the recent escalation between the United States and Iran in the Middle East.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Nawaf bin Saeed Ahmad Al-Malkiy, in Islamabad on Sunday, a Foreign Office statement said.
“They exchanged views on the latest regional developments,” it said.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening Pakistan-Saudi Arabia relations across all areas of mutual interest for the benefit of both nations.

Earlier on Saturday, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a phone call with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan during which the sides expressed deep concern over the recent escalation in the region despite the signing of the Islamabad MoU between the United States and Iran in June 2026.
The two leaders exchanged views on the recent developments in the region and agreed that the renewed conflict serves no one’s interest and undermines efforts toward regional peace and stability, a Foreign Office statement said on Saturday.

Saudi Arabia condemns latest Iranian attacks in Gulf
Earlier, Saudi Arabia strongly condemned Iran’s latest attacks in the Gulf region, warning that such actions pose a threat to regional stability, international law, and freedom of navigation.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attacks represented a violation of the principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, and the Charter of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

In a statement, the ministry said Iran’s actions contradicted the principles of good neighbourly relations, citing repeated attacks on commercial vessels as a growing threat to maritime security and the safe movement of ships in the region.
“Such behaviour threatens the security and freedom of navigation,” the ministry said, stressing the need to respect international norms and regional stability.
Iran launched missile and drone attacks against Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, widening its military campaign across the Gulf only hours after the United States carried out a third round of airstrikes against Iranian targets in retaliation for alleged attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
