ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Armed Forces Bone Marrow Transplant Centre has successfully performed the country’s first chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy, marking a significant milestone in the treatment of cancer.

CAR-T cell therapy is an advanced form of immunotherapy that involves modifying a patient’s own immune cells to recognise and attack cancer. The treatment is primarily used for certain blood cancers, including leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma.

According to Radio Pakistan, the breakthrough follows years of research and innovation by specialists from the Army Medical Corps.

The state broadcaster said a 21-year-old patient made a full recovery after undergoing the therapy, with both the patient and family showing remarkable resilience throughout the treatment process.

The successful procedure places Pakistan among a select group of countries capable of providing CAR-T cell therapy, one of the world’s most advanced cancer treatments.

The achievement underscores the country’s growing medical expertise and its expanding capacity to deliver sophisticated therapies for complex diseases.
