ISTANBUL: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met senior executives of Türkiye’s leading business groups in Istanbul on Saturday, inviting greater Turkish investment in key sectors of Pakistan’s economy as part of efforts to deepen economic cooperation between the two countries.

The meetings took place during the prime minister’s bilateral visit to Türkiye at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with both sides seeking to strengthen trade and investment ties.

Meetings with Business Leaders

Shehbaz Sharif held separate meetings with Çalık Holding Chairman Ahmet Çalık, Albayrak Group Chairman Ahmet Albayrak and Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB).

During the discussions, the prime minister said Pakistan and Türkiye enjoyed longstanding brotherly relations and stressed the need to translate those ties into stronger economic and commercial partnerships.

He highlighted Pakistan’s improving macroeconomic indicators, investor-friendly policies and the government’s commitment to providing a transparent and predictable business environment for foreign investors.

Investment Opportunities

The prime minister invited Turkish companies to expand their investments in Pakistan’s priority sectors, including energy, mining and minerals, infrastructure, maritime services, logistics, information technology, telecommunications, manufacturing, agriculture and privatisation.

He said the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) continued to provide one-window support and institutional facilitation for strategic investors in coordination with federal and provincial authorities.

During his meeting with Çalık Holding, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted investment opportunities in energy, infrastructure, information technology and privatisation, welcoming the company’s interest in expanding its operations in Pakistan through its existing businesses, including Çalık Enerji and GAP İnşaat.

He also praised Albayrak Group’s long-standing presence in Pakistan and encouraged the company to increase investment in maritime infrastructure, port modernisation and logistics.

Strengthening Business Links

In talks with TOBB President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, the prime minister welcomed the organisation’s efforts to promote business-to-business cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye.

He proposed creating a structured mechanism for regular engagement between the private sectors of both countries and invited TOBB to lead a high-level business delegation to Pakistan to explore new investment opportunities.

According to an official statement, the Turkish business leaders welcomed Pakistan’s economic reforms and improving investment climate, expressing confidence in the country’s economic outlook and reaffirming their interest in expanding long-term investments across a range of strategic sectors.

Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Istanbul on Friday for a bilateral visit focused on strengthening trade, investment and broader economic cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye.
