MAKKAH: An exhibition in Makkah is showcasing six rare marble tiles from the 19th century that once adorned the halls of the Grand Mosque, offering visitors a glimpse into the site’s rich architectural heritage.
Dating back to 1881 CE (1299 AH), the tiles feature intricate Arabic calligraphy and reflect the exceptional craftsmanship of their time, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Sunday.
The inscriptions include the names of Allah, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and four of the Prophet’s companions.
The marble tiles offer a unique glimpse into the Grand Mosque’s architectural evolution over the centuries.
Having once adorned the mosque’s corridors, they have been carefully preserved and are now displayed as part of the exhibition’s efforts to document and celebrate the history of the Two Holy Mosques.
