RIYADH: Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen strategic cooperation in the mining and mineral resources sector, marking a new step in expanding bilateral economic ties.
The agreement was signed by Saudi Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Alkhorayef and Kazakh Minister of Industry and Construction Yersayin Nagaspayev during Alkhorayef’s official visit to Kazakhstan, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.
The MoU provides a framework for enhanced collaboration in mineral exploration, including the exchange of expertise, technical knowledge and advanced exploration technologies.
It also seeks to encourage joint investments in mining projects and strengthen cooperation between companies operating in the sector in both countries.
Under the agreement, Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan will work together to advance exploration activities, share industry knowledge and expertise, and promote partnerships aimed at unlocking the full potential of their mineral resources.
The two sides also agreed to expand cooperation in innovation and modern mining technologies, while leveraging their respective strengths to develop integrated mining value chains and improve the efficiency and sustainability of exploration and extraction operations.
The agreement forms part of Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to deepen international partnerships in the mining and minerals sector and enhance collaboration with resource-rich countries.
It is also aligned with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to establish mining as a key pillar of economic diversification and position the Kingdom as a global hub for mining and mineral investment.
Officials said the partnership is expected to create new opportunities for investment, technology transfer and knowledge exchange, supporting the long-term development of the mining industries in both countries.
