  • At least eight people killed and 32 wounded, Lebanese Health Ministry says
  • Strike reported before Israeli evacuation warning for Tyre and surrounding areas

ISLAMABAD:  Israeli airstrike on the southern city of Tyre killed at least eight people and injured 32 others on Tuesday, Lebanon’s Health Ministry said, adding that the casualty toll remained provisional as rescue operations continued in the affected areas.

The state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported that the strike took place shortly before the Israeli military issued an evacuation warning covering the entire city and surrounding neighbourhoods, urging residents to leave ahead of further planned operations.

The sequence of events has drawn attention locally, as reports indicate the airstrike occurred before the public evacuation notice was released, leaving no time for civilians to move to safer locations.

Emergency teams and civil defence units were deployed across impacted districts to search for survivors and assist the wounded, as debris and damage were reported in multiple parts of the city.

The escalation comes amid continuing hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, with southern Lebanon remaining a frequent theatre of strikes, evacuations and displacement affecting civilian populations.

Authorities have warned that figures may rise as search and rescue operations progress and access to some areas remains restricted due to security concerns.

Al Jazeera English, referencing Lebanese state media and health officials, reported the strike within the context of escalating hostilities in southern Lebanon involving Israel and Hezbollah, where repeated evacuation orders and airstrikes have displaced civilians.

Emergency workers remained deployed across the city as authorities warned that the number of casualties could rise once access to all affected areas is secured.
