ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New York on Thursday and discussed regional developments and Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to bring peace and stability in the region.
“The two leaders exchanged views on recent regional developments and Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to facilitate dialogue and diplomacy, aimed at promoting sustained peace and stability in the region and beyond. Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated appreciation and support for Pakistan’s constructive role,” a Foreign Office statement said on Thursday.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated appreciation and support for Pakistan’s constructive role.
They also recalled the recent successful visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his delegation to China, as well as the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, underscoring the longstanding friendship and strategic cooperation between the two countries.
Ishaq Dar is visiting New York at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to attend a United Nations Security Council open debate on “Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-centred International System.”
The debate took place on Tuesday under China’s presidency of the Security Council.
The Deputy Prime Minister / Foreign Minister noted that the recent convening of two rounds of Party-to-Party mechanisms — the Pakistan-China Political Parties Forum and the CPEC Joint Consultative Mechanism — in Beijing helped strengthen linkages between major political parties of Pakistan and the Communist Party of China, according to the statement.
He also expressed appreciation for China’s continued support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, national dignity, and independent development path.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China attaches great importance to its relations with Pakistan. He reaffirmed Beijing’s desire to further enhance strategic communication, carry forward the longstanding friendship, and deepen cooperation
He stressed China’s commitment to accelerating the building of an even closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era, so that bilateral relations may better benefit the peoples of both countries and contribute to regional peace and security.
“At the regional and international level, the two leaders agreed to continue working closely for the promotion of multilateralism, peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and a rules-based international order,” it said.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership and strengthening the bonds of friendship for future generations.
