MINA: The Saudi Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has carried out more than 29,000 health and food safety inspections during the 2026 Hajj season, including checks on catering kitchens and food establishments across Makkah and the holy sites.

The inspections also included testing over 5,000 food samples using both mobile and fixed laboratories to ensure food safety standards for pilgrims, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.

The operations covered central markets, storage facilities, and catering services, supported by extensive field campaigns to enhance compliance with food safety regulations.

The efforts were backed by five mobile laboratories, 10 on-site testing devices, and nearly 40 inspection vehicles, allowing for rapid testing and immediate response in high-density pilgrim areas.

The ministry confirmed that no cases of food poisoning have been reported so far during the Hajj season. Monitoring and sanitation operations are continuing through the Days of Tashreeq, with field teams and municipal centres maintaining environmental health and regulatory oversight in Mina.
