TOKYO: Japanese meteorological experts warned on Monday that the coldest air mass of the season is expected to bring heavy snow to large swathes of Japan starting from Tuesday.

Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA)

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), an ultra-cold air mass that will be moving into western and eastern Japan between Tuesday to Thursday may cause transportation problems due to the significant snowfall and blizzards.

The agency has asked residents to prepare for the heavy snowfall and cold temperatures as soon as possible, urging drivers to be cautious in the snowy circumstances. According to the JMA, there could be power outages, and water lines could freeze, so residents of places where heavy snowfall is predicted should avoid going outside as much as possible. According to the weather agency, severe snowfall and snowstorms are anticipated from Tuesday to Thursday in areas facing the Sea of Japan coast in northern and western Japan.
