ISLAMABAD: The United Nations Security Council has unanimously adopted its annual report to the United Nations General Assembly following Pakistan’s preparation of the introductory section during its presidency of the Council in July 2025.

The report, covering the Security Council’s work during 2025, was approved by consensus at United Nations headquarters in New York and highlights the Council’s engagement on global conflicts, peacekeeping operations, conflict prevention, and humanitarian crises.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, introduced the report and described the annual document as a key instrument for transparency, accountability, and institutional dialogue between the Security Council and the wider UN membership.

He said Pakistan approached the process with the objective of presenting a substantive and balanced account of the Council’s deliberations, challenges, and outcomes during a period marked by complex geopolitical tensions and multiple humanitarian emergencies.

The report reflects the Security Council’s work across peacekeeping, peacebuilding, protection of civilians, conflict prevention, peaceful settlement of disputes, and cooperation with regional and subregional organisations.

Ambassador Asim said Pakistan adopted an open and inclusive approach in preparing the introductory section, including consultations with UN member states and coordination with the President of the General Assembly.

He noted that feedback from member states contributed to refining the final text.

He added that the annual report should remain a continuously improving process.

He also expressed hope that the General Assembly’s consideration would further strengthen cooperation between the Security Council and the wider UN membership in the spirit of multilateralism.
