ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces have confirmed the killing of a terrorist identified as Umar alias Ghazi during a counter-terrorism operation conducted in Khyber district of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, bordering Afghanistan.
The terrorist, described as a key operative of a proscribed faction, was neutralised in an intelligence-led action carried out by Pakistani security personnel.
According to security officials, the operation reflects the continuing and determined efforts of the armed forces to eliminate terrorist elements and secure peace in the region.
Umar alias Ghazi was associated with a banned group referred to as Fitna al-Khawarij (FAK), and his elimination is being viewed as part of broader operations targeting organised terrorist infrastructure.
Fitna al-Khawarij is a term used by the state to refer to the terrorist groups – particularly factions of the Tehreek-e-Taliban – that carry out attacks inside Pakistan.
Officials stated that security forces are actively pursuing and dismantling hideouts linked to the Khwarij network across various areas. They added that consistent operations are being conducted to disrupt planning, movement, and logistical support structures of such groups.
Security sources further stated that terrorists belonging to these networks are being pushed out of their safe havens, including areas across the border in Afghanistan, where they are receiving support and protection.
Security forces are actively tracking and targeting every hideout of the Khwarij, preventing their plans. The Khwarij are being forced to flee their safe havens in Afghanistan, where they are protected by the Afghan Taliban.
The statement emphasised that security forces are making significant sacrifices in their ongoing campaign against terrorism, particularly in efforts to safeguard civilian populations who have faced repeated threats and disruptions due to terrorist activity.
Authorities described the recent operation in Khyber as part of a wider, coordinated, and strict counter-terrorism strategy aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, eliminating their leadership, and restoring long-term stability.
Officials reiterated their commitment to ensuring peace and security, stating that operations will continue with full force until terrorist structures are completely neutralised.
