ISLAMABAD: At least five Pakistani civilians, including a woman and four children, were injured on Wednesday after the Afghan Taliban launched unprovoked shelling in Pakistan’s South Waziristan, according to security sources.
The security sources said that the Afghan Taliban once again targeted civilian areas in Angoor Adda, in the South Waziristan district.
Mortar shells fired from across the border struck the homes of local residents Karim Khan and Rahmatullah in nearby areas, causing injuries and damage, they added.
As a result of the shelling, four children and a woman sustained serious injuries and were shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Wana for medical treatment, the sources said.

They added that the Afghan Taliban, along with affiliated banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), referred to by the state as Fitna al Khawarij, have been repeatedly targeting innocent civilians in pursuit of their objectives.
In response to the unprovoked aggression, the Pakistan Army carried out a forceful retaliatory operation, striking multiple positions along the border. Following the response, the sources said that the Afghan Taliban vacated their posts and fled the area.
They accused the Afghan Taliban of persistently targeting civilian populations inside Pakistan, while the Pakistan Army is responding in a befitting manner by carrying out precise strikes only at military targets.
Earlier, the Pakistan Army destroyed several posts of the Afghan Taliban in response to unprovoked aggression in Balochistan’s Chaman sector, security sources said.
The operations, part of the ongoing ‘Operation Ghazab lil-Haq’, were a response to the “unprovoked aggression” by Afghan Taliban forces and terrorists on the Pak-Afghan border, according to the sources.
Security sources said that the army destroyed several Afghan Taliban posts and vehicles in Chaman “with precision”.
Islamabad has repeatedly called on the Afghan Taliban to eliminate terrorist sanctuaries within their territory, particularly those associated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), but officials say these demands have not been acted upon.
Pakistan, on February 26, launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq against the Afghan Taliban and terrorist groups operating from across the border.
After a temporary halt on March 18 at the request of “brotherly Islamic countries,” Pakistan resumed the operation on March 26, stating it would continue until all objectives are fulfilled.p
