GAZA CITY: At least eight Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, in what officials describe as the latest violations of a fragile “ceasefire,” according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

The ministry said a further 29 people were wounded in the latest wave of attacks, with casualties continuing to mount despite the truce agreement.

Medical sources warned that the toll could rise as rescue teams struggle to reach those trapped under debris amid ongoing strikes and limited resources.

According to official figures, the death toll from Israeli military operations since the start of the war on October 7, 2023, has climbed to 72,344, with at least 172,242 others injured.

Authorities believe the real numbers are likely higher, as many victims remain buried under rubble and have yet to be accounted for.

Since the ceasefire was agreed in October last year, at least 765 Palestinians have been killed and 2,140 wounded in continued Israeli attacks across Gaza, raising concerns about the durability of the truce and the worsening humanitarian situation in the enclave.

Global mood shifting on Israel: Palestinian FM

Palestinian Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shahin has said there is a noticeable shift in global attitudes toward Israel’s occupation and illegal settlements, particularly across Europe, but emphasised that growing sympathy must now be backed by concrete action.

In an interview with Anadolu Agency, she noted what she described as an increasing trend toward Israel’s international isolation, along with rising global support for Palestinians. However, she cautioned that expressions of concern alone are no longer sufficient.

“What is needed now are practical decisions, not more statements,” she said, urging the international community to move beyond rhetoric and take tangible steps.

In Gaza, Shahin described the humanitarian situation as “catastrophic,” with aid still insufficient and the health system nearing collapse.

She also highlighted a worsening economic crisis in the West Bank, driven in part by Israel’s withholding of tax revenues, leaving many families struggling to meet basic needs.
