ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Army and the Egyptian Armed Forces have commenced a two-week joint counterterrorism exercise, “Thunder-II,” at the Special Operations School in north western city of Cherat, a military statement said on Monday.

Troops from the Special Services Group of the Pakistan Army and Special Forces of the Egyptian Army are participating in the exercise, according to a press release issued by the military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The exercise is aimed at enhancing professional skills through joint training, while further strengthening the longstanding military-to-military relations between the two friendly countries.

Participating troops are expected to gain valuable insights through the exchange of experience and expertise, particularly in the execution of counterterrorism operations, ISPR said.

The Commandant Special Operations School, Cherat, was the chief guest at the opening ceremony.

Pakistan and Egypt share longstanding and friendly defence ties, rooted in mutual trust, shared strategic interests, and cooperation within the broader Muslim world.

Their military relationship has evolved over decades and continues to strengthen through training, joint exercises, and institutional collaboration.

One of the key pillars of this relationship is military training and professional exchange.

Officers from both countries regularly attend each other’s staff colleges and defence institutions, helping to build interoperability and deepen understanding of modern warfare and security challenges.
