The talks come against a backdrop of sharply escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Following a joint US-Israeli strike on Iran on February 28, Tehran launched waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Gulf states, Israel, and American assets across the region, plunging the region into one of its most serious security crises in years.
Gulf airports, including major cargo hubs in Dubai and Doha, have faced repeated closures due to Iranian strikes, disrupting trade, travel, and the flow of critical medical supplies, according to Arab News.
The announcement follows a series of diplomatic contacts on Tuesday, with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan holding calls with counterparts in Syria, Algeria, Iraq, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates.
Wednesday’s meeting reflects a coordinated Arab and Islamic effort to contain the fallout and explore pathways toward de-escalation before the crisis deepens further, reports Arab News.
