RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has condemned Iran’s repeated blatant aggression against Türkiye and Azerbaijan affirming their right to protect their security, airspace, territorial integrity.

In a statement issued Thursday, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said the drone and missile attacks reflect a hostile approach by Tehran “that cannot be justified.”

The ministry added that such actions constitute a clear violation of international law, established norms, and the principles of good neighbourhoods, warning that they risk further escalating tensions across the region.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expressed full solidarity with the governments and peoples of Türkiye and Azerbaijan, affirming their right to defend themselves and protect their citizens.

Earlier, Iran carried out a series of drone and missile strikes targeting sites in both Türkiye and Azerbaijan, marking a significant escalation as the conflict spreads beyond the Middle East. Azerbaijani authorities confirmed that a drone hit the Nakhchivan region near the Iranian border, striking the international airport and a village close to a school.

Meanwhile, Türkiye reported intercepting incoming projectiles targeting areas near its eastern frontier. The attacks have heightened concerns of a broader regional confrontation, prompting neighboring states to bolster air defenses and assess potential responses.

The wider conflict, triggered by coordinated U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran late last week, has now expanded beyond a direct Tehran-Israel confrontation, drawing in Lebanon, Iraq, and several Gulf states while disrupting air travel and prompting diplomatic evacuations.

Saudi Arabia had warned on Tuesday that a repetition of such “cowardly and unjustified attacks” by Iran constitutes a blatant violation of sovereignty and risks further destabilizing the region.

The Saudi Cabinet reaffirmed that the kingdom reserves the right to respond to acts of aggression that threaten its security and regional stability.
