ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Islamabad was compelled to carry out measured and precise kinetic actions after the Afghan Taliban failed to address Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns over terrorism emanating from Afghan soil.
Briefing the diplomatic community in Islamabad on Monday, Dar highlighted Pakistan’s sustained restraint and positive engagement with the Afghan Taliban regime during the past four years.
“Afghan regime’s failure to address Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns, and the unprovoked coordinated armed attack by Afghan forces along the Pak-Afghan border, which compelled Pakistan to undertake measured and precise kinetic actions to counter the menace of terrorism emanating from Afghan soil against Pakistan,” he said.
He also expressed condolences over the martyrdom of the Supreme Leader of Iran and reiterated Pakistan’s call for de-escalation, restraint and diplomacy to restore peace and stability in the region.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said that 435 Afghan Taliban fighters have been killed in the ongoing military response under Operation Ghazb lil Haq.
According to the minister, Islamabad continues retaliatory action following cross-border attacks by terrorists and Afghan forces.
In a post on X, Tarar shared an update on March 2 detailing what he described as significant losses inflicted on Afghan Taliban positions inside Afghanistan.
According to the minister, more than 630 terrorists have been injured since the start of the operation.
He added that security forces have destroyed 188 check posts and captured 31 positions during coordinated ground and aerial engagements.
The update further stated that 188 tanks, armoured vehicles and artillery pieces have been destroyed.
Additionally, 51 locations across Afghanistan were struck through precision air operations.
Operation Ghazb lil Haq was launched following an unprovoked Taliban attack from across the border.
Officials said the operation remains ongoing and is focused on dismantling terrorist infrastructure posing a threat to Pakistan’s security.
