RIYADH: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening their longstanding strategic defence partnership, underscoring deep-rooted military cooperation and shared regional security objectives.

The renewed pledge came during a meeting between Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman in Riyadh.

They also highlighted both countries’ pivotal role in promoting international peace and security in a way that safeguards mutual interests and reflects the aspirations of the leadership of both countries.

“We discussed our joint efforts to promote global peace and security in a manner that serves our shared interests,” the Saudi Defence Minister said in a post on X on Thursday.

Saudi Arabia continues to be one of Pakistan’s closest defence and security partners in the Middle East, with sustained and comprehensive engagement across the air, land, and naval domains.

In recent years, the two countries have significantly expanded military cooperation through joint exercises, training exchanges, and formal defence agreements.

In September last year, the two countries signed a mutual defence agreement under which any act of aggression against one state would be considered an attack on both.

In December 2025, Prince Khalid conferred upon Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir the King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellent Class, in recognition of his pivotal role in advancing Saudi-Pakistani relations and defense cooperation.

Bestowed under the directives of Saudi leadership, the honour underscored Munir’s contribution to deepening institutional ties and strategic alignment between the two nations.

Saudi Arabia remains Pakistan’s largest source of remittances and hosts more than 2.5 million Pakistani expatriates, highlighting the depth of economic and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
