ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to enhance cooperation in a wide range of areas, including IT, energy, mining and minerals, as well as defence cooperation.

The resolve was expressed during a meeting between Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the UAE President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, at Sheikh Zayed Palace in Pakistan’s eastern city of Rahim Yar Khan on Tuesday, an official statement said.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister reaffirmed his strong commitment to strengthening the longstanding, brotherly relationship between Pakistan and the UAE, aiming to elevate it into a strategic and mutually beneficial economic partnership.

He underscored the importance of both countries actively working to boost bilateral trade through significant growth to reach desired levels.

Shehbaz Sharif lauded the UAE for hosting 2.1 million Pakistanis, whose contributions have played a pivotal role in deepening bilateral relations.

The two leaders carried forward discussions from their recent meeting in Islamabad on Friday last, when Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan paid his first official visit to Pakistan as President of the UAE.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and other senior officials.

The UAE is Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner after China and the United States, and a major source of foreign investment, valued at over $10 billion in the last 20 years, according to the UAE foreign ministry.

The two countries regularly engage in high-level diplomatic and economic dialogues to strengthen their strategic partnership and regional stability.

The relationship emphasises mutual support, economic growth, and shared development goals, reflecting a commitment to long-term collaboration.
