KABUL, Afghanistan: Afghanistan’s National Resistance Front (NRF) has claimed that its fighters killed three Taliban members during clashes in the northern province of Baghlan, as fighting between the resistance group and the Taliban continued in several parts of the country.
The Afghan Taliban have not commented on the attack.
In a statement, the NRF said Taliban forces launched an attack on one of its positions in the Dara-e Kariz area of Barim village, in Nahrin district of Baghlan province.
The group said its fighters responded with a counterattack, killing three Taliban members and forcing the remaining fighters to retreat.
The NRF alleged that Taliban forces shot and killed a civilian shepherd during their withdrawal. It said none of its own fighters were killed or injured in the clash.

Earlier on December 11, the resistance group said its fighters clashed with Taliban forces in Panjshir province, a long-time stronghold of resistance to Taliban rule.
According to the group, at least 17 Taliban members, including a local chief of staff, were killed during fighting in Panjshir earlier this month.
The NRF said the attack targeted a Taliban base in the Abdullah Khil Valley of Dara district and resulted in its “complete destruction”.
Local residents cited by Afghan media said they heard a powerful explosion near the site.
They reported that Taliban forces later searched nearby homes. Independent verification was not possible because access to Panjshir is tightly restricted by the Taliban.
Resistance groups in Afghanistan
The NRF was formed after the Taliban returned to power in August 2021. It is led by Ahmad Massoud, the son of the late anti-Taliban commander Ahmad Shah Massoud, and is made up largely of former members of Afghanistan’s security forces.
The group has claimed frequent attacks on Taliban fighters, particularly in Panjshir, Kabul and surrounding provinces.
In its annual report last year, the NRF said it carried out 150 operations in 17 provinces during the Afghan solar year 1402, claiming more than 400 Taliban casualties.
Another armed group, the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), has also reported attacks against the Taliban, despite a sustained crackdown by the authorities.
The Taliban have not issued any official response to the reported clashes in Baghlan and Panjshir.
Human rights groups have accused the Taliban of detaining, torturing and killing residents in Panjshir on allegations of aiding resistance forces. The Taliban deny carrying out widespread abuses.
