ISTANBUL: Turkish authorities have arrested more than 100 individuals suspected of links to the so-called Islamic State (ISIS), who were allegedly planning attacks during Christmas and New Year celebrations.

According to the BBC quoting the Istanbul’s chief prosecutor, raids were conducted at 124 locations across the city, resulting in the seizure of weapons, ammunition, and organizational documents.

Officials stated that ISIS supporters were reportedly preparing attacks against non-Muslims in Türkiye this week. A government statement confirmed that police had detained 115 suspects, while searches for an additional 22 individuals remain ongoing. The prosecutor’s office also indicated that the suspects were in contact with ISIS operatives outside Turkey.

This announcement comes just two days after Turkish intelligence agents carried out an operation targeting the group along the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Among those arrested is a Turkish citizen accused of serving as a senior commander for ISIS in the region.

Authorities emphasized that the coordinated raids reflect Turkey’s ongoing efforts to prevent terrorism and safeguard public safety during the holiday season.
