ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces have killed nine ‘Indian backed’ terrorists in two separate intelligence-based operations in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.

“On reported presence of khwarij, an intelligence-based operation was conducted by the Security Forces in Dera Ismail Khan District, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

“During the conduct of operation, own troops effectively engaged the khwarij location, and after an intense fire exchange, four khwarij were sent to hell,” it said.

The term Fitna al-Khawarij is used by Pakistan’s government and military to refer to the banned terrorist groups, most prominently the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorist group.

ISPR added that another intelligence-based operation was conducted in Bannu District. “In ensuing fire exchange, five more khwarij were effectively neutralised by the security forces,” it said.

Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from Indian sponsored killed terrorists, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against the Security Forces, Law Enforcement agencies and target killing of innocent civilians.

The ISPR said that security forces and law enforcement agencies are conducting clearance operations to eliminate any Indian-backed terrorists present in the area.

It added that under the approval of the Federal Apex Committee for the National Action Plan, the campaign to eliminate terrorism will continue with full intensity in line with the ‘Azm-e-Istehkam’ vision.

Pakistan accuses the Afghan Taliban of allowing the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to operate freely from Afghan territory.

Officials say the TTP has become fully operational across the border, posing a serious threat to Pakistan’s internal security.

The group has long used Afghanistan as a sanctuary, but its freedom has expanded significantly since the Taliban takeover on August 15, 2021.

TTP fighters and their families are now based in eastern provinces such as Khost, Paktika, Paktia, and Kunar — areas that have become staging grounds for attacks inside Pakistan.
