ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Navy has successfully conducted a live firing of a surface-to-air missile system in the North Arabian Sea, demonstrating its operational readiness and air-defence capability in a complex maritime environment.
According to the Pakistan military, media, ISPR, the Live Weapon Firing (LWF) involved the FM-90 (N) Extended Range surface-to-air missile, launched from a Pakistan Navy ship against highly manoeuvrable aerial targets. The missile successfully intercepted its target, reaffirming the Navy’s war-fighting capability and combat preparedness.
The firepower demonstration was witnessed by the Commander Pakistan Fleet, who observed the firing at sea onboard a Pakistan Navy Fleet unit. He commended the officers and sailors for their professionalism, dedication, and high operational standards, and reiterated the Pakistan Navy’s resolve to ensure the seaward defence of the country and protect national maritime interests under all circumstances.
The FM-90(N) ER is a naval surface-to-air missile system designed to defend warships against airborne threats such as aircraft, drones, and cruise missiles.
Conducting a live firing at sea allows the Navy to test radar tracking, command-and-control systems, and crew response under real operational conditions, serving as a critical measure of readiness and deterrence in Pakistan’s maritime domain.
