KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a choppy session on Monday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index oscillating throughout the day before closing marginally lower at 161,984.08 points, reflecting a decline of 118.84 points or 0.07%, according to official PSX data.

The bourse opened on a positive note, pushing the index to an intra-day high of 162,385.32 points. However, selling pressure emerged soon after, bringing the benchmark down to an intra-day low of 161,241.46 before investors returned to selective buying later in the session.

Topline Securities noted that the market remained largely range-bound as traders adopted a cautious stance amid the expiry of November futures contracts. Concerns over the law-and-order situation in Peshawar also weighed on early trading. Selective buying in major heavyweights helped stabilise the index near the close.

Leading contributors on the upside included FFC, ENGRO, PIOC, BAHL, and HBL, which collectively added 499 points to the index. Meanwhile, MARI, OGDC, MEBL, POL, and PPL were the primary decliners, subtracting a combined 347 points.

Market participation remained robust despite the Index’s muted performance. Shares of 477 companies were traded, with 191 advancing, 247 declining, and 39 remaining unchanged.

The overall trading volume dropped to 490.35 million shares from 768.05 million in the previous session, while the value of shares traded fell to Rs 23.67 billion from Rs 28.64 billion.
