ISLAMABAD: Federal authorities on Thursday announced notable progress in the investigation into the suicide bombing outside the Federal Judicial Complex in Islamabad earlier this week, confirming several key facilitators and handlers have been detained.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi told reporters that the individuals arrested “played central roles in the planning, sheltering and logistical arrangements” of the attacker.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhary stated the network greatly depended on familial and tribal links to hide operatives and facilitate movement within the capital. “This structure complicated detection and demonstrates the adaptive methods militants are employing,” he said.

Initial leads came from digital forensics and intercepted communications, guiding investigators towards operations in Rawalpindi and northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Security experts on X — including @ Zardsi, @ Ihsantipu, and @ Mr _ khattak 2004 — reported some detainees are relatives of previously identified militants, affirming official statements.

Investigators are also examining financial transactions through informal channels, aiming to trace funding routes that may have supported the attack. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and intelligence agencies are working with the State Bank and Financial Monitoring Unit to freeze accounts and track cross- border connections.

Naqvi added that the investigation is ongoing and will explore whether the network received external assistance. All main entry and exit points to Islamabad remain under heightened alert, with increased cooperation between federal and provincial forces.

Officials anticipate the preliminary investigation will conclude within ten days, marking the first phase of a broader crackdown on facilitators who provide safe houses, transportation, and communication for militant activities. Analysts emphasise that dismantling familial recruitment networks is vital for long- term stability.
